Well, civil unions/marriage. There's a certain amount of debate on this, along the lines of, it's not marriage unless it happens in a church.
What is important to me is that the law provides equal choice and rights to all, so if this is really such a big deal then...
If a straight couple or a gay couple don't marry in a church - that's civil union.
If a straight couple or a gay couple do marry in a church - that can be defined as marriage.
One law fits all. Works for me.
But this is splitting hairs over wording, it is the responsibility of the law to back up the equality and rights of it's people.
There is nothing to stop anyone exchanging vows in a stone circle under the light of the moon and considering it as poignant and binding as marriage, but all (adults) should be given the right to register vows legally, and be given the same rights and benefits accordingly. Everyone should have the right to choose, that is to marry, or not as they wish.
The idea of equality is so ingrained in me, that when people object to gay marriage, and object to legal rights and equalities, I find it incomprehensible. I'm a sauce for goose is sauce for gander person(!)

My own religious upbringing was very relaxed, and somewhat inquisitive! Growing up in a multi-cultural area, with chums from many different faiths, I couldn't help but notice the similarities rather than the differences between faiths.
There are so many different languages and cultures, it follows that there are as many religions too. You find the one that fits you best.
It's what's in the heart that counts. :-)
I don't think a deity truly minds what path you choose, or how much you may question edicts that may have been written by human culture rather than divine inspiration. Or what incense you wave or whether you pray in latin or arabic. And ultimately, I don't think It, (for I can't imagine a deity to possess something as trivial as gender!) to really care about people being straight or gay. There are, (after all) far more pressing things for a God to worry about regarding the human race; war, genocide, torture and the rest. :-(
