Think of the Taj Mahal.
Think of the Great Wall of China.
Think of the Great Pyramid in Eygpt.
Think of...

Liverpool

Yes folks, Liverpool has been certified as a World Heritage Site setting it alongside these aforementioned historic monuments.

Hah! All those who mocked me, who gave out the pitying looks cos I had to move to Liverpool, eat your words now! I bet you're all jealous!

It was on the news the other day, and after I'd picked myself up from the floor where I'd collapsed in hysterical laughter, ahem, I mean of course, jubilation. I was very happy, anything that brings more cash and investment to Liverpool is a good thing. Perhaps now the powers that be can get their act together to do something about the distressing smell of poo, that hangs over Liverpool City Centre.

Those of you who, (like me,) are blessed to live in the 'pool, correct me if I'm wrong, but every time I've gone to the City Centre, sooner or later a certain smell will hit my nostrils, of, of, well the polite word would be, ahem, drains.
The BBC were interviewing various tourists to Liverpool, for soundbites on how it is such an excellent tourist magnet, (it's got old buildings y'know!) Capital of Culture and all that, no mention of the smell of poo though.

I have seen and touched the Taj Mahal, I've walked on the, (very slippery,) Great wall of China, I've nearly freaked out walking through the middle of the Great Pyramid and standing in the black as death cube tomb within it. And I can tell you now, for sure, none of these places smelled of poo.

It smells...

Sounds as if that one nearly did though! :-)

I didn't freak out that much. Though admittedly, there was a moment when I was standing right in the middle of the pyramid, (having just passed a woman who'd collapsed from claustrophobia and was being calmed down by guides,) when I started thinking about just how much piled rock was over my head. Not something you want to think on too closely.

Hmm, I wouldn't recommend that you go caving then!

Do you remember that photo I had as a poster, of the view down a mine shaft? There was another 1000 feet of mountain above that point.

Strangely enough, I like caves, or at least, I like the sort of caves where you don't have to get soaked to the skin, crawl on your belly or get covered in ickky mud. I went to such a cave complex in while I was in China, it was raw and untouched, (no electric lights or carved or concreted paths,) with a few squeezy bits where you had to breathe in but not crawl about. When we stepped in far enough that there was no light save for the lights on our helmets I thought I'd freak out then too. Then I saw a couple of bats hanging from the ceiling and entirely forgot to be scared and started to be interested instead.
Mind you, I do remember your photo, and that probably would be a bit too much for me.

Well, Liverpool certainly is an experience. To be fair to the old 'pool, it has been strapped for cash and desperately run down for decades, so it does deserve a few wads of cash flung in it's direction.

They still need to sort out the smell tho' :-)

Ga! Menswear is tricky enough, and I really don't know Liverpool at all well. Boots are my thang, shoes are a mystery. If it's smart shoes for work you're after then a retail village would be a place to start, where you could pick up summat smart, semi posh and, (dare I say it,) from a designer outlet, without (hopefully) having to pay through the nose.
There is a retail village in Liverpool that I'm told is good for bargains, but I don't know where it is or if it's any good.
Quiggs would only be good for alternative styles, and for that, you'd have more choice buying from Pennangalen (http://www.gothboots.co.uk/) on the net. (Though their delivery takes weeks and they mostly do boots.)
