Xerxes - Handel
Mini-picture review of Xerxes. Rather late, saw this back in September. (But was too busy to post back then, groan!)
A man dressed as a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman, and a woman dressed as a man pretending to be a woman pretending to be a man.

Are you still following this? It's a proper opera - finally! We shall sing the famous Ode to a Tree!
Admire some cross-dressing...
Which is actually looking a bit hot...
And eat cream cakes!
Which is all you need to know really. I'm reviewing this rather late after seeing it, so my memories are somewhat hazy.
The plot is absurd, the names of the characters mostly and confusingly clustered at the beginning of the alphabet so keeping track of them is tricky... Arsamemes, Atalanta, Amastris, Ariodates... groan! But, but, it was funny and amusing, and I'd been having a pretty stressful time at work, so to escape to 3 hours* of gorgeous Handel was blissful and utterly lifted my spirits.
* Perhaps not everyone's idea of delight - but this was a joy, just what I needed!
